New Novel Progress

Posted by on Apr 6, 2015 in Blog |

The novel, The Prison, I began in June last year, is approaching 200 pages. I am probably at the midpoint of the piece. Some have asked, so I wanted to give this update.

Publication of new short story

Posted by on Apr 6, 2015 in Blog |

With the resolution of technical problems with my website, I can now report upcoming publication of a new short story with the literary journal CONFRONTATION. This notable journal has published the likes of John Steinbeck, W. H. Auden, Joyce Carol Oates, Joseph Brodsky and Arthur Miller. Obviously, it tickles my narcissism to be among these giants. The editors are also interest in other works I’ve written. We’ll see how wide this door opens.

New Novel Launched

Posted by on Jun 27, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Today, early this a.m., I began a new novel. All I will say at this point is its title: The Prison. The idea came from a recent part-time job I accepted working in a private prison in the Mississippi Delta. The structure of the work will be different from anything I’ve written. The creative process will take a year. I’ll keep my readers posted.

Magical Night in NYC

Posted by on Jun 21, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

On Friday the 13th, Sandi and I had one of those rare, lucky moments. Following dinner at Trattoria Del Arte with my literary agent, Linda Langton, we crossed 7th Avenue and attended a concert at Carnegie Hall. Our dear friend, Alexander Markov, arguably the greatest violinist of this generation, performed with the Shattered Glass Ensemble. Both, individually and together, were outstanding in a presentation of “From Baroque to Paganini.”   Thundering applauses and cheers...

Ten Things I Wish Jesus Hadn’t Said will be published by Leafwood Publishers, an imprint of Abilene Christian University. I am to receive a $1500 advance. The book is scheduled for publication in August of 2015. This news arrived when I came back yesterday from the prison in Tutwiler. Next in line for editing is The Christian Right: Is It...

New Job

Posted by on May 28, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Left Tupelo 4:30 a.m. and arrived Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility 7:00 for first day on my new job as part-time psychologist. I will work two ten hour back to back days a week. The facility has 2600 inmates, all from Calif. Long fueling day with no customary nap. Learned how to make daily routine and check on all segregated inmates (the most dangerous). They must be monitored daily by psychologists. I work with another psychologist Dan Murphy who has been there seven years. Most of...

Tornado and Writing Update

Posted by on May 9, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Since the tornado tore through Tupelo on Monday, April 28, we are just now getting internet service. The funnel’s touchdown was one block from our house. We rode it out under our house. Power was out for 48 hours. The writing and promotion of books continues. Roy Ryan and I had a good crowd at Traceway Retirement Center with gigs planned for Pontotoc County Library and Mimi’s bookstore in New Albany in June. Plans are underway for a book event at Lake Junaluska Book Store in North...

WRITING UPDATE

Posted by on Feb 19, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

New Testament Stories: What Do They Say Today? is due out next week. Co-author Roy Ryan and I anticipate brisk sales based upon early interest. Return to Freedom Summer is under current review by a number of noted publishers. Nothing definite at this point. The rejections, however, have been glowing. Mark’s Gospel: The Last Page is under current review by my agent, Linda Langton. The Christian Right: Is It Christian? Is It Right…Or Left? is under review by my agent, Linda Langton. Things...
