Left Tupelo 4:30 a.m. and arrived Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility 7:00 for first day on my new job as part-time psychologist. I will work two ten hour back to back days a week. The facility has 2600 inmates, all from Calif. Long fueling day with no customary nap. Learned how to make daily routine and check on all segregated inmates (the most dangerous). They must be monitored daily by psychologists. I work with another psychologist Dan Murphy who has been there seven years. Most of the work was paper, typing at a computer. Left at 5:00, drove to Clarksdale and spent the night in a very nice Rodeway Inn.Up the next morning at 4:00, arrived at TCCF at 5:00. Another long 10 hours then left for home at 3;00 arrived at 5:00.

This job is going to be a challenge but I’m up for it. Excited about starting up at age 71 and not shutting down.

A favorite Tennyson quote from Ulysses comes to mind:  “How dull it is to pause, to make an end, to rust unburnished not to shine with use.
